About the Event

We all thought vinyl records would be abandoned by the new technology when CD and digital audio were introduced in the 1980s. Indeed, Walkman and iPod have dominated the consumer market for decades, while analog devices are struggling to survive in the niche audiophiles market.
Who knows—when the decline of physical albums seems unavoidable, analog audio has started to bounce back and keep thriving in the past decade. The pace of life is increasing with technological advancements, but we also realized that the convenience of playing digital music sometimes might also eliminate its fun. Although adjusting the levels of tracking force, anti-skate and VTA are so troublesome, the pleasure of fine-tuning an analog system is still unique and irreplaceable!

So, let’s talk about how fun it is tonight!
No worries, we will not brainwash you with complicated theories, pseudoscience, or selling analog playback devices during the event. It’s just a sharing session about good music. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you're just a beginner or expert, a believer in analog or digital audio.

About the Speaker

Christopher Tsai—the speaker—is an analog audio enthusiast and maintenance technician, or should I say designer, from Taiwan. He had blended into the US Hifi community for years when he received higher education there. Hence he is also familiar with the cultural difference between US and Taiwan’s audiophiles.
Then, why Malaysia now? The story began with a girl he met and fell in love with—she is a Malaysian. After getting married, he placed himself in a job that required him to travel between Taiwan and Malaysia. Therefore, he is very interested in getting in touch with you guys and learning more about the Hifi community in Malaysia—including the young head-fi generation who primarily embark upon this hobby accompanied by digital audio equipment and music streaming services.

Even though it’s just a sharing session, Chris has put much effort into it. He has selected over a hundred pieces of vinyl records, weighed about 30kg, cleaned them one by one via an ultrasound washing machine, and will bring over all of them to Malaysia on this trip! His private collection contains multiple genres, including symphony, concerto, classical guitar, opera, lieder, folk music, and all-time pop songs such as Andy Williams and Johnny Mathis, not to mention a 100% new and sealed Teresa Teng’s album!
We will hold a mini-market to display and sell Chris’s collection after the sharing session. Don’t miss the chance to grab it home and begin your journey of analog audio!
