Hifiman Ananda Nano | The Silver Arrow

▶️ Demo unit is available for auditions!

The Ananda Nano is the addition to the Ananda family, joining the Ananda Stealth Magnet as the new iteration of the Ananda family of 2023. Despite the upgrade from the Ananda Stealth Magnet with Stealth Magnet design and NEO "Supernano" Diaphragm, the Ananda Nano further improves it with Nanometer Thickness Diaphragm which trickles down from the Susvara design.

As per the past review of Ananda Stealth Magnet, the Stealth Magnet design allows for uninterrupted motion of soundwaves, via acoustically transparent magnet structures. The special shape of the Stealth Magnets allow the sound waves to pass through them without generating interference. It reduces distortion and yields pure sonic output that is accurate. As for the Nanometer Thickness Diaphragm, it has much lower distortion and higher transient response and doubles the improvement of dynamic and details.

Apart from the internal upgrades, the new Ananda Nano almost retains the same headband design, similar shaped earcups and padding. The window shade grills are less protruding, with flusher fit to the earcups. The headband strap has been redesigned to better fit the head. The shorter strap allows for even better adjustment for users with smaller head shape. The iconic egg shape shell and hinge has been recoloured to shiny silver which undeniably stands out from the all black looking headphones from any other brands.

The headphone packaging also comes with an official carrying case, hardshell nonetheless, and a longer dual 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. So you can bring it around, for listening, monitoring on-the-go.

Coming from the Ananda Stealth Magnet, the new Nano variant definitely has better transparency and clarity overall. The overall presentation is clean and neutral, apart from the warmer, fuzzier tone of the Ananda Stealth Magnet. It still have the same soundstage, wide as ever; a tad deeper depth and clearer imaging and response.

The low frequency range of Ananda Nano is still considered accurate, with speedy and relatively linear response. There is still a lower, deeper rumble, but not void of it at all. Midrange of Ananda Nano is still vivid, textured and articulative for both male and female vocals. The instruments are portrayed clearer, more accurately in terms of positioning and directions. You can say that it is almost uncoloured for its performance. Gone with the fuzziness and warmth and it gives you a better sense of space and clarity. Ananda Nano's treble is still airy, extended as always and feels open. The cymbals and crash are delightfully done, no shrill or shoutiness in it. The attack is better, crispier and you can feel the solid outlines of the treble from the instruments.

Compared to the Edition XS, the entry of the many egg-shaped Hifiman, the Edition XS emphasises more on the mid-bass punch, a little more intimate sounding compared to the Ananda Nano. The Nano would have a better resolution and detail retrieval, as well as the width in terms of soundstage.

As for the Anada Stealth Magnet, would it be a worthwhile upgrade? Personally it will be pretty much down to preference and likings. The Ananda Stealth is a tad warmer, more laid back sounding. If you like cleaner, more clarity oriented headphones, you could really consider the Nano version instead.
