Matrix Audio is one of our favourite audio brands from China not only for their sonic performance but also for their unique design language in their products. Especially the newly improved X-Sabre 3 which not only looks like a modern piece of artwork but also sounds like one. Let’s get right into it now shall we.

The biggest improvement over the predecessor is definitely the fact that the X-Sabre 3 is now a Roon Labs Ready capable streaming DAC, under the elegant tempered glass top panel is a completely redesigned internal circuits with dual band 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz Wi-Fi, of course LAN is available too for ultimate streaming stability. Beside Roon it also supports UPNP/DLNA/Airplay and not to mention native Spotify and Tidal connect, direct access right from the mobile app!

As expected from the expertise of Matrix Audio, the X-Sabre 3 sounds fantastic! Equipped with the flagship Sabre #ES9038Pro, you can expect a top notch low noise sonic performance from the unit. AKM fans need not to worry too as Matrix did a great job in tuning it as it’s neutral with great warmth too, vocal is smooth with decent texture and airiness without being thin and piercing, yet they still sound wide and spacious with great depth to the image, nothing was sacrificed to achieve that! Bass was accurate sounding too without being bloated nor shy. We absolutely enjoyed listening to the Matrix X-Sabre 3, and did we mention that it has very good measurement results too?

Top notch sound and excellent measurement, is this not an audiophile biggest dream come true!
