In 1979, the Walkman brand was introduced, in the form of the world's first portable music player using the compact cassette format. Sony introduced the MiniDisc format in 1992 as a successor to the compact cassette. In addition with their music production background, and  their introduction of the DSD music file format which revolutionised digital listening experience, Sony is one of the giants that sets the benchmark and manufacturers industry leading digital audio players, headphones, IEMs, and desktop systems.
